alexwild > An undescribed Amblyopone dracula ant species from Madagascar. A large portion of the world's ant fauna remains undocumented, especially in the tropics.

Madagascar
alexwild > Adetomyrma sp. "mad-01", an undescribed species of dracula ant. The world has so many species of insects, and so few taxonomists, that finding new ones is almost trivial, especially in tropical regions.

Madagascar
alexwild > Mystrium mysticum has an unusual caste system. These unusual ants are dimorphic, with a small red caste that appears to work mostly in the brood nest and a larger, dark caste that performs most of the foraging and guarding of the nest. Interestingly, the ants that perform as reproductive queens are drawn from the smaller caste.
