Paraponera
comprises a single species (Paraponera clavata) of giant ants found in lowland rainforests of Central and South America. They are often called "bullet ants" for their uniquely painful sting.
The fearsome Paraponera clavata bullet ant is reputed to impart the most painful sting of any insect. This worker, however, was content to walk about on my hand without showing any aggression.
