Myrmecia
is a large, active, and conspicuous element of the Australian fauna, and with the exception of a rare New Caledonian species it is found nowhere else. Commonly known as bull ants and jack jumpers, these insects are well known by Australians for the aggressive defense of their nests and their painful stings.
