Lepisiota
is a widespread formicine ant genus in Africa and Eurasia comprised of mostly small, inconspicuous ants. They are recognizable by a pair of protrusions at the end of the middle body section.
Formicine ants are often dependent on honeydew-producing insects. Here, Lepisiota sp. workers tend to scale insects in a South African forest.
