Apterostigma
is one of several genera of small Neotropical fungus-growing ants. These leggy, slow-moving insects typically have small nests in the soil, but some species may construct their fungus gardens on the undersides of leaves above the forest floor.
Apterostigma auriculatum fungus-growing ants are true agriculturalists. They subsist on a fungus they cultivate with bits of collected detritus.
